@toomuchreading - here's a workaround solution

If you browse with what I call the Book Information window (press I on a book) then you'll see the Book Metadata. If you spot something that needs changing - click the Edit Metadata icon in the toolbar, its window will pop, make your changes and click OK, then resume browsing, via the Previous & Next buttons, in the Book Information window
