I prefer Android because it's more customizable than iOS. I used to have an iPod touch. At first I loved iOS. At the time I owned it I had a very cheap Android phone that was a total headache. The phone was running Gingerbread. I use T-Mobile and at that time, the company didn't have the iPhone. My phone began to act strangely so I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S II. Once that happened, I began to set why people love Android so much. This phone only runs Ice Cream Sandwich but I found I was able to do so much more with this phone than I could on the previous phone or the iPod touch. The widgets are great, the one touch calling buttons that are right on my home screen are so convenient, the ability to put unlimited app shortcuts in one folder is nice and the pull down control center is awesome. Some features have been adapted by Apple but others have not. I also own a Nexus 7 running Jelly Bean 4.3 and it had even more features I like.
iOS has a slightly better selection of apps and the apps on my iPod touch didn't crash as much as they do on my phone but this is a perfectly good tradeoff for me. I find that apps don't really crash at all on my Nexus 7.
