I have an iPad2, I think 2-3 years old, use a Windows 7 computer, and live in Australia.
This evening when I attached my iPad to my computer to check out an ebook with iBooks I got a message that the iOS7 upgrade is available, and asking if I wanted to get it. Not knowing any better I downloaded and installed the iOS7 upgrade. When I next tried to use the iPad attached to my computer I got a message to the effect that the iPad could not work without the latest iTunes, available from
www.itunes.com.uk. I could not use my iPad at all.
I went to the URL above, downloaded and installed iTunes, and my iPad2 came back to life.
I am distinctly unimpressed with Apple:
- for not telling me
before I upgraded the OS that it would kill my iPad unless I installed the latest iTunes
- for putting out software which is too dumb to check that it can be installed without damage
- for not making the latest iTunes available from the US, where I get all my upgrades from. Only time will tell whether I have problems with upgrades in future.
If I'd known beforehand this would happen I would not have installed the OS upgrade. I certainly don't like the new appearance, and was reasonably happy with the performance of the old OS.
Edit: I'm sorry, I was so cranky about these events that I posted to the wrong forum. Moderator, could you move this to the Apple forum please?
