I've come across a few books where the non-English words inserted for effect were wrong
either typos or the wrong translation altogether. I do remember one describing a still-life where instead of nature-morte, they used presque-vie and another one where Outremer appeared a couple of times as outré-mère
Probably a safe bet to say that neither the author nor the editor in those cases were French speakers.
