The viewer has what normal people call columns, see Viewer preferences Text layout in paged mode->The number of pages of text to show on a screen set it to something > 1.

Ah! the 2 (+) page mode. Never use it

But the answer maybe to tick Override margins and use the defaults (10px) to create a gutter between pages. Even without this setting, my non-0 page side margins (2pt,16pt) don't crop, just looks crowded
