I live in the south. Here guys and girls use endearments to strangers like sugar, hon, honey darlin', my dear, sweetheart....you name it. I'm guilty of using the word hon myself and have to omit it when typing.
I live in the south also Blossom I'm a manager in a convenience store that's right off an interstate and if I don't know their name it's always sweetie or honey.
