I meant the built in firewall of OSX.
It's somewhere in System Preferences.
(I am currently in 10.6.8 not on 10.8.5; the placement of the Firewall setting in the System Preferences might have been changed.)
On my Mac mini snow leopard the firewall is on and there is a setting for Calibre = allow incoming connections.
