I have been burned too many times by changing behavior that doesn't need to change. Someone who decides that comments need more space is motivated to go look at the preferences. In addition, some people (like me) prefer the comments to be to the right of the label. I never use large fonts and I almost never read on my phone, so I have plenty of space. In fact (and of course, for me), on my 10" test tablet full-width comments look a bit silly, especially in landscape.

No, it wasn't intentional. I have fixed it.

You might find that some books don't have this problem/feature. Those would be books that have pure text comments containing no HTML. Those of us who have used calibre for a long time can easily have these.
