There are threads on several boards from people who have tried different plugs/cables that physically fit the 30pin socket but none will work and charge the device. I wouldn't even be willing to try a cable without knowing in advance that it worked.

Yes I didn't realize they had a 30pin connector until just recently. I always assumed they had the USB connection all nooks have had.
I have heard that some cables will charge the device but not fast charge it. Apparently B&N did a different pin out to tell it that fast charging is possible. Which doesn't surpries me, they did the same with Nook Color and Nook Tablet. The USB end that plugged into the device was slightly longer. You could use a standard USB cable, but it just wouldn't fast charge. And if you tried to use the device while plugged in with a standard cable, you would discharge it faster than you could charge it lol.

And now I see that others say the connector is even different from Apple's and won't even fit. *shrugs* no idea. I don't have both devices here so I can't say here with any certainty..
