I work night shifts and I use reading to help myself get to sleep at weird times it doesn't bother me to much if I'm reading from my Nexus 7 or my Sony T1 I do however use an app called LUX on the Nexus that can really lower the brightness and has a night mode I believe help cuts out the blue light it also has an astronomer mode that cuts all white light but everything looks red I believe the real use for this is for people who want to keep their night vision.
I do believe light is extremely important when it comes to sleep I also use a sunlight lamp to help set my sleep cycles given my weird times, to do this I simply turn it on at the times I want to begin waking and I really believe it to reset my body clock the real use for these lamps is for treating Seasonal Affectedness Disorder but I saw potential in them for helping me wake up naturally.
So basically I'm saying the LCD doesn't really effect me much but I do believe it has been heavily researched that blue light in particular can reset your body clock and also can play havoc with sleep cycles the plus point is you can also use the same effect to sleep better.
