The Kindle for PC app would not open the majority of my books. I was getting a message "This book could not be opened. Please remove the book from your device and redownload it" So I googled and the boards at Amazon said to unistall, deregister, reinstall, reregister. Which I did a few times. I tired just removing one book and redownloading it. Same message. Did a chat with a tech guy at Amazon. He kept telling me each book I mentioned had new content (from when I originally downloaded it). So he sent me a bunch. But same message. Then he had me deregister/reregister and eventually uninstall/reinstall, but nothing worked.
So I had to go through my entire library and remove the books that wouldn't open and redownload them. Given the number of Amazon freebies/99 cent specials I have it took me the entire evening. But I am done now

Not sure what the issue was, but I am not buying that that many books all have new content
I wouldn't have cared, but I am the process of going therough every book in my main Calibre library and reconverting the ones from when I first started that I now know how to do more with (remove TOC page, fix TOC headings, correct line spacing, etc). I always like to use the original file. And Calibre wouldn't let me convert any of the AZW files. (To be fair I only tried 2 in Calibre, one Carina Press book, one Samhain thinking it shouldn't be a DRM issue). But they wouldn't open in Calibre either.
But as I said all is well now. <knock on wood>
