At least part of it must be to do with transaction fees for Amazon... If it's a small fixed charge plus a percentage (or just a small fixed charge) per transaction, they'll want to do the fewest possible transactions to keep their margins as high as practicably possible (but without letting Harry out of their sights for an instant
