It was pretty amazing that Amazon added KF8 support to the K3. I certainly didn't expect that.

Agreed, I'm not expecting updates any more, but the DXG was still reasonably current when KF8 appeared (as much as the K3 was, anyway), and when the K3 got support for it, I hoped the DX would, too. And the K2 & DX aren't
that different hardware-wise from the the K3, as the unofficial port of the 3.x firmware to the DX proves.
I love my new Aura HD, but I would love a frontlghted, hi-res 9.7" reader even more. So come on, Jeff, where is my 2400x1650 DXG II with frontlight? It doesn't even have to be a Carta screen. I'll make do with Pearl
