For Japan:
Wi-Fi: ¥9,980 (about USD$100) shipping Oct 22 http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00CTUMNAO
3G: ¥14,980 (USD$150) shipping Nov 12 http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00CTUMMD2

Like the CNet review mentions, the new PW as advertised on Amazon Japan has 4GB of RAM. Even the bullet list on Amazon's top page is different. US: Contrast/Light/CPU. Japan: Contrast/CPU/Memory. I guess you could argue that Japanese ebook files are larger so you need more room to fit the same number of books...?

Looks like Amazon is still strongly pushing prices painfully low to further jump-start the Japanese ebook market. At that price I'd be surprised if they're making any profit on the hardware at all. (And before you ask, they specifically say they're only shipping them domestically; Amazon's smart enough not to slit their own throat.)

The new 3G PW is not far behind the US release date. But like last year's model, the 3G is for Japan only, unlike the US 3G which works everywhere including Japan.

TBH I'd waffle a lot more if it didn't have the RAM boost, but I just pre-ordered the Wi-Fi model to replace my old Wi-Fi PW.

I must support our domestic ebook market! Yes, that's the reason...
