It may be that Kobo is just trying to eliminate confusion for people coming over from Amazon or Sony devices. Which makes sense to me, as they are now the only company offering a size range in their readers, as well as the best front lighting. I'm sure some folks who have had Sony readers have bought Kobos and probably some who have had Kindles have been tempted by the larger Aura HD.

I know, that's what bugs me so much. The fact that they feel they have to change to fit in with the crowd, when their way is also legimate, AND (imo) not confusing at all, even for people coming from another device. I knew about collections, but the second I heard shelves were being implemented, I knew what they were talking about. Assuming people can't understand what shelves are for, just because their previous device called them collections....well, that's pretty insulting, in my book.
oh and if they are assuming that the people who can't handle that naming difference when thinking about buying a kobo, will be able to handle all the other differences from the other devices, well, that's a bit deluded!!
I guess it's partly that I like a bit of individuality in a company, when it doesn't mean that a) they are using it to brand their product to an insane level (ie calling them kobocubbies instead of shelves....) or b) that the difference is just a matter of stubbornness and that their "individuality" is just a product design that doesn't work nearly as well as the alternative...(thinking of things like refusing to adapt to global standards...not something as mundane as naming a part of a product

)
Ah well, something like that gets under my skin for awhile, then 6 months later I forget that kobo even ever called them shelves. My memory is just that sh***y.
