You misunderstood Kovid's response, he simply stated it was DRM protected. Calibre can't convert books protected by DRM. The line where Kovid talks about legal reasons is his forum signature and is at the end of every post he makes.

As others have stated detailed instructions on how to remove DRM is not permitted on this forum and you need to remove the DRM from your book before calibre can convert it. You'll have to ask for help on DRM removal from the site where you obtained the tools plugin.

My experience: My 54 year old eyes are very sensitive to back-lit screens (more so since Lasik surgery) about a year ago I purchased a Nexus 7 and to my surprise I discovered that by using the right theme in Moon+ Reader (and its ability to lower the brightness of the screen) I was able to read comfortably for hours without eye strain. Computer screens still give me fits but I moved from my Sony PRS-950 eInk reader as my main reader to my Nexus 7 and never looked back.
