Thanks for this.... I guess I'll get an OTG cable and give it a try. I have a medley of USB sticks in a drawer that I can walk through. I'll report back when I have some personal experience.
FYI- I have a gen 1 fire and I did the N2Aos conversion last night (after tech help hours of course!

). It did NOT work using my XP sp3 computer...no way, no how. After 3 hours of stubborness, I switched to a Vista laptop (which I hate!) and the conversion worked without a hitch and was done in about 15 minutes. Sooooo, if you're doing this on XP and have any problems call tech support immediately or use a different computer.
Also, the thing that held me back the most was my concern that it would convert my gen 1 fire into a MTP device and I would no longer be able to sideload books from Calibre on my XP computer. It does and it did, however the N2Aos has a setting to allow gen 1 fires to continue being seen as a mass storage device which should allow me to continue sideloading...It is not the default setting and I haven't tried Calibre since changing it, but I suspect I will be fine.
