Depends. Most books from Kobo can be downloaded as an ePub with "standard" Adobe DRM or a few as DRM'd PDF (plug-in works fine), but there are some books that are only in Kobo's proprietary format and those can't be de-DRM'd nor can they be read on anything but Kobo devices/apps.

Also watch out for anything published by Harlequin or one of their labels from July(?) 2010 or before. There are formatting problems with those books when coming from Kobo.
