Attached is a test version with additional debug output to try and figure out the problems people are having with custom column updates and Count Pages being called.

If you're not having these problems, there's no reason for you to use it.

Question: A user on the google group with the same issues (both of them) is using calibre in portable mode. Are the two users having problems here?
