I'm sorry if this is the dumb-of-the-week question. I've been looking and I've not found (yet) a thread (or threads) to read/follow that discusses "optimum" (cough) formats for storage. I also don't know if I'm barking up the wrong tree.
The answer I'm looking for is the answer to the question
"What storage formats maintain the highest fidelity to the original work." (i.e. What storage formats do not drop any data that may have been present.)
I'm
sure that I'm not the first person to search for this nor ask it but I'll be darned if I can turn up where this might have been discussed. It might very well be that there's no differences between formats in this regard but I figured I'd like to read the discussions about it/them to learn more.
In short, I'm looking for pointers here, not to start the discussion.
Thanks to all in advance and pardon my intrusion if this is the wrong place for this request.
