There are probably obscure laws designed to ensure schools can overcharge for texts. My kid gets a book list just a few days before classes start. Some of the books are 'special editions' or come with software codes that cost as much as the book if purchased separately. No doubt in my mind the intent is to make local purchase more appealing.
