It was light and fun, with a cute hero and an uptight but adorable heroine. I'd recommend it, especially at this price, if you want to check out her style.
These early romances by Janet Evanovich are not overly similar to the Plum series. For one, they are far more focused on romance and, IIRC, a bit more smexy than poor old Stephanie - who does get plenty of lovin' (Morelli... Ranger...Morelli...Ranger...who can choose?!?! ), we just don't get to 'see' much of it The Plum series is light and funny and has some slapstick moments, but Stephanie's love life definitely comes second to solving the case (or, um, second to Stephanie accidentally solving the case with hopefully only one car explosion along the way )

You can definitely hear Evanovich's voice in these and I enjoyed them very much - Janet's character development is never very deep, but she has wholly likable and lovable characters none-the-less. In fact, Elsie Hawkins in Back to the Bedroom is a prototype for Grandma Mazur in the Plum books, so if you liked that spunky little lady, then you'll love Grandma Mazur Sometimes she's worth the read in and of herself... well, besides Ranger, of course
