Interesting System error

Windows XP SP3 Calibre 0.9.43

I have noticed a number of entries in my System Application error log :

Quote:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows Search Service
Event Category: Gatherer
Event ID: 3013
Date: 16/08/2013
Time: 11:55:17
User: N/A
Computer: PBWXP
Description:
The entry <C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\BOBC\MY DOCUMENTS\CALIBREBOOKS\METADATA.DB-JOURNAL> in the hash map cannot be updated.

Context: Application, SystemIndex Catalog

Details:
A device attached to the system is not functioning. (0x8007001f)
I've now excluded metadata.db from search indexing but has anyone any idea what is actually going on here ? It's the reference to an attached device not functioning that is bugging me.

There are other similar refs to other Calibre metadata.db files on my machine which is why I thought someone may have been down this path before.

EDIT : despite excluding metadata.db form search indexing the problem persists.
