You absolutely do not have to handle "an unfiltered...". Wichever version you use you can choose "forums" instead of "posts", and what you see is a list of all forum sections.
And, as have already bees stated, "subscribing" in Tapatalk can be compared to bookmarking, and it will not result in any e-mails.
But, once again, just because some of us love Tapatalk it doesn't mean everyone has to! And for those that do like to use it, 99 cents is a good price to get the newest version. (AS I said earlier, I'm not sure I prefer this version, but at 99 cents I can get it and play around with it to see if I change my mind.)
I don't doubt that. But, how do you get to "forums"? I don't see that option in the latest version.

From what I can see, it's a half-decent alternative to trying to use the website (and should use less bandwidth), but is mainly (now) being marketed as a twitter/facebook/g+ aggregator. None of which I use (as far as reading anything on any of them).
