Well, as no one else complained of such a problem with a new firmware update it seems at least somewhat likely that it was the hidden SSID as others have suggested. Easy enough to test by making the SSID visible. You're really not getting any advantage with a hidden SSID. The reason I'm asking is that it's important to suss these things out for the next person that hits this forum with the same question.
