To answer my own question (by making use of Amazon's fair return policy), I got a PW about two weeks ago, and found my Baen books (already in my Personal Documents archive) appear to be considered Amazon books as far as the 3G access goes - I have access to them. Whether that works when I'm travelling will be another story.

I love the 5.3.x software on the Touch, and I love it more on the PW 3G. But after buying manga from Amazon, I've lost a 1.17GB of space to it, and I'm down to about 100mb.

Oh well - as long as I can redownload things (the manga I used wifi for, due to the size), I think I know which unit will travel with me. The Aura has the HD screen and SD slot, but the Kindle has far better software.
