Amen to this, with an emphasis on polite. I just had a negative experience as a new poster on another forum (which must use the same software engine as MR--it's exactly alike in look and feel), where I was made to feel most unwelcome by two long-time "guru" posters who delighted in lecturing me for having the audacity to correct one of their posts (a correction that was never actually refuted) and patting each other on the back for it. This is an experience completely foreign to me on MR, and one that I am very careful not to inflict on any new posters when I answer their posts.
