Depends on your eyes. Reading for extended periods on backlit LCD screens causes me pain. I would never get a tablet for that, but my eyes are mine.

My best guess is that if you don't have any difficulty reading for extended periods on a computer, you probably won't on a tablet. Turning down the brightness might help.
