A few more thoughts:

*nrapallo says the file must be saved to the root directory - this is true for the older firmware versions, although at some point the firmware was upgraded and the books can be saved to the root folder *or* inside the main EBOOKS folder. If you're using Windows, I know there's a limitation to the number of files that can be saved to the root directory (of any drive) - I'm thinking I've hit that at around 60. But you'd know that before putting the card in the eBookwise (you'd get an error message copying the books to the card).

*That same older firmware would only convert 15 books at a time. So I had to insert the card, turn on the machine, let it convert 15 books, turn off the machine, turn it on again, let it convert 15 more....new firmware converts as many as there are space for.

*eBookwise must convert the book from an IMP to a RES file when it first loads the book to memory, and it takes extra space on the card (temporarily) to convert the books. Rule of thumb is, leave unused space on the card at least as large as the largest IMP file you're adding. Sometimes even that's not enough, so I try to leave 2x the space of the largest file.

*I'm about 85% sure that the SmartMedia card has to be formatted as FAT for eBookwise to recognize it. While your computer will happily read it with other formatting, eBookwise wants it to be FAT!
