If you really want to have the Nook HD or any other gadget, that's not shipped to locations outside of the US:
http://www.myus.com or similar shipping services will solve that for you.
Uplift typically will be around 10% to 15% of the price for the gadget and some minor uplift on the shipment.
I've ordered the Nook HD+ via them. I've ended up (including shipment, uplift, VAT and import fees) about 25% above the list price. For me in Germany, this means I pay about the same amount in Euro as someone in the US would have to pay in $ US.
Of course, warranty and such would be a bit tricky, but I take the risk at least 3 to 5 times per year for the last 3 or 4 years and only had a single problem: Nook HD did have low build quality, but the buying price wasn't worth the effort and costs to send it back overseas...
