No ... it couldn't be that easy. American Airlines not only wouldn't let me on the plane (which was still at the gate, but the door had been closed), but the only way they would reschedule me was if I left the day after tomorrow .... and naturally, by then the conference would be mostly over.
So, I forfeited my $500 AA ticket and had to buy a new ticket through United. That was the only airlines that had a flight to Monterey that would actually get me there today.
So, instead of getting there in the afternoon, I now will get in about midnight. However, at least I will be there. What with the cost of the new tickets and all the additional electronics I had to have overnighted to me, I would say that this little kitty escapade has set me back about $800 .... ($1300 less the $500 I would have had to pay for the original ticket anyway).
