Lon Chaney Sr. has a similar problem in film. Since a lot of his work has been lost most people think he was a horror movie actor but in fact he made a lot of non-horror movies. It's just that so few are left that his "Phantom of the Opera" and "Hunchback of Notre Dame" are the best known.
