Actually, I thought of that after I posted. Had you been on this side of the world, I would have suggested the island intimated in the DiCaprio film "The Beach." I used to spend months there when I first moved to Asia. These days unfortunately is has developed into an island with three villages, paved roads, 57 large resorts, and 150 bars. There is even a car rental agency. The picture below is how it looked back when I used to stay there...
