I don't think I have seen young children (under 8) in the library without their parents. I was not able to get my own library card until I was 7 although it might be different now and it was only one book at a time and I could not take out anything without pictures without my parents getting it on their card. I see children today with quite a pile of books, but whether their own or their parents cards are used. I suspect their parents just due to the small disagreements I overhear.

I am sure their are some children in the 2-8 year old range that are capable of signing onto overdrive, finding the books they want, downloading and or placing them on hold, and checking their email to see if the holds are in. But not the majority by any means.

If I had several small children who read a book or two a week, and many can read a reasonable sized book a week by 5 or a children's picture book in an hour or two at most by five, it would certainly be a lot easier to do it on one card.
Each child having their own card probably means they can borrow more in total BTW.

But then again people with large families may not have time to go to the library with their children or borrow ebooks for them. Hopefully the school libraries are adequate
