I finished Beau Ideal, the third book in the "Beau" series by P.C. Wren which begins with the much better known Beau Geste. In my opinion, this novel is actually the best of the three, being more coherent than the others and with a shade of darkness in the situation of the main character. It has the usual assumed colonial racism, unconscious sexism, and absurd chauvinistic devotion to "DUTY" and the "stiff upper lip" but does provide an interesting and exciting adventure story despite all that.
