Assuming that your calibre library is in good order now, make frequent backups. If you should encounter problems in the future, just exit calibre, delete (or rename) the current library folder and restore the most recent backup to the original place. That is all you would have to do.
I strongly recommend that you try it out now. Perhaps using a smaller test library.
