Mentioning Arthurian legend reminds me to suggest Tim Powers' "The Drawing of the Dark." Many of Powers' books are unique historical fantasies but that is one of my favorites. Probably the, um, dark humor.

And historical humor reminds me to suggest Neal Stephenson's 'Baroque Cycle' trilogy, more historical fantasy. Half-cocked Jack became a favorite character for me and Stephenson's sense of humor makes me laugh out loud at times.
