As others have suggested, it's possible to return to 2.5.2.
However, I would suggest avoiding that route. It is probable that all future firmware releases will be based upon the new interface, so you will miss bug fixes. It is also possible to improve your experience with the Kobo Utilities plugin for Calibre (it will automatically remove tiles so that only books will appear on the home screen).
