(4) has nothing to do with metadata backup. The show cover grid button is currently non-functional (it is something I am working on in parallel, just ignore it). metada backup has never respected priorites as it happens in the same process as the GUI. The only throttle there is that a limited number of backups should be written, IIRC no more than three a second. Do you observe something different?
