I think music is certainly an important part of a teenager's life, although we do not know his age.

It's hard not to see a kid without a pair of earphones glued to his or her ears.

Since reading is the primary focus for him for using an ebook reader, then you should probably buy him the best one you can find. Also, talk to him (if this is not a surprise gift), and find out what he knows about ebook Readers. His preference may come out in the conversation.
