When I worked for a company producing a software development product a while ago, we used to use Docbook for writing technical documentation. The advantage was that you could then translate it to multiple technical formats (PDF, HTML, man,...). With programs like Word and OpenOffice now being able to do the same thing for the more popular formats, I suspect not many are using Docbook anymore (besides those that still want to produce help/manual documents).
