Close door
Engage seat belt
Move gear to Park
Insert Key
Turn Key to Start
Once car has started, release key to Run
Oh, look, six steps.
And in more modern cars, sensors can enforce the close door and engage seat belt rules.
Or, if you don't have the keys:
Break windows or jimmy the door
Rip ignition key cover off
Isolate Power, Ground, and Start wires
Pull wires, exposing conductive wires
Twist Power and Ground wires together
Touch Power wire to Start Wire until car starts
Oh, look, it still takes six steps to hot-wire a car.
