I think I learnt of it in these forums- or maybe in Becca Prices' help module
Having to access this context menu by 'left click' on the
v, or by 'left click and hold' on the button is inconsistent with most (all ?) similar Calibre 'widgets' that have a
v indicating the presence of a context menu.
Many of the buttons on the toolbar have a
v and 'right click' can be used to show the context menus. A 'right click' in the adjacent Author's field in metadata edit, which also has a
v, will show its context menu.
A side effect of not using 'right click' to access this context menu, is that the 'menu key' found on most modern keyboards also can't be used in the normal way.
Other major uses of 'left click and hold' are to do drag/drop operations, and in graphics programs to draw lines, re-arrange objects etc.
Maybe its a quirk of the Qt GUI library...
