I don't think it's a rumour at all as both Asus and google have made attempts to limit the problem which is made worse by the low storage limits google insists upon 32 gb is pathetic in this day and age we should be seeing at least 128gb as standard already.

This time a year ago I was convinced Asus were the company to watch now I think their the company to avoid say what you like about Samsung and Apple but at least they use high quality components throughout.

I visit android site every now and then, i haven't seen even ONE people actually experiencing this issue, or complaining about similar symptoms.
And the problem referred to by your fist link is once again software, not hardware.
Just website making buzz on nothing, that's all. One or two N7 have issue, and everyone goes "Oh no all the N7 are going to break down right now !!!!".
