I'd draw their attention to the old quote from Edmund Burke - "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." When people pass the buck about something not being their problem then they become part of the problem. Those who trade liberty for security will have neither in the end. Compromising what is right because it isn't easy to achieve what is right is a certain path to a world no one should want to live in.
