That shouldn't be an issue. If you use another account, you won't be able to download your previously purchased book through WIFI. My question was merely to see the steps you've taken.

It seems as if something wrong happens when you unplug the device. If you're sure to un-mount/remove it safely each time, I don't know what it could be.

Since I always perform updates through WIFI I don't know if the device has to be unplugged to finish the update process (so maybe the first freeze is a normal step).

I hope someone more knowledgeable will be able to help you. And don't forget, that you can exchange it by saying it's a defective unit.
