The survey was not talking about "the majority of people in the world." It was taken in the U.S., where I'm pretty sure most of the responders at least had seen a book. The breakdown was 75 percent paper, 15 percent digital, and 10 percent undecided.

My assumption is that if there were responders who didn't know what a book was, they'd report they were undecided.
