The texts are sourced from Gutenberg, mostly. I’ve used the unexpurgated versions of Moby Dick and Typee and the 1962 text of Billy Budd, Sailor.

The formatting, italics, and diacritics have been checked and corrected by comparing the texts with the paper editions. Quotes are curly, footnotes are active, and fonts are embedded.

The collection is sorted chronologically by book publication. There are the usual inline tables of contents and links after each text/chapter to get back to the respective tables. The dates of first publication are noted.

But, er, complete it is not. (It is now. See update v.2.0.)

I haven’t included the poetry yet, as with its less than stellar reputation I wasn’t sure if it is worth the effort. I don’t want to lose any more sleep about it, so I decided that I’d like you to decide about its inclusion. Therefore I have set up a poll here.
