Yeah, I prefer page-turn buttons, but what can you do? Button Saviour is pretty handy on the Nook STR (the Nook buttons suck). I think the Onyx Android e-reader has page-turn buttons.
Unlike you, I use the rooted Nook more as a mobile note-taker / e-ink tablet than as an e-reader. Well, about half and half. Check out the Orion PDF reader app. Best I've found for e-ink. I think it was designed for it.
