And yes I know rooting T2 is a simple process. Most 12 year olds could probably do it if they can read and follow instructions. Not really a major accomplishment to brag on and on about IMO. Perhaps it is for you?.

And I have an android tablet and an HP tablet with dual boot to android. No big deal. Like yourself I have a desktop, and a few laptops, and numerous other gadgets and devices. I have gone to trying to buy only wireless accessories because I had too may power bars and USB hubs attached to and surrounding my desktop. I like gadgets and devices and spend far more on them than I should.

And why on earth would anyone expect Sony to support a self made tablet? They hardly support their ereaders although they do better than some. AFAIK no one supports a rooted device, which I assume you were referring to.

I don't expect my ereaders to do everything a tablet does and more but would be okay if they did. If they would get together and make the bed and cook me breakfast that would be even nicer.

Look, I don't want an e-reader to do everything a tablet does. Quite the opposite - I hate tablets. In the sense that I don't see any use for them. They do everything but worse than specialized devices. So I have specialized devices instead. If you travel a lot, and if e-reader is not enough for you when you travel, you may think differently, though. But for me a tablet is just a gadget or a toy that I will never buy. At least an lcd tablet.

I want e-reader to do only functions related to reading:
- to have reading software, dictionary software and dictionaries, file manager or if you prefer it - library managing software.

I don't want in a reader even any of the other stuff that is already included in T2: like a browser, Ever Note (I have no clue what it is) etc.

So if I get an e-ink tablet, I will only install reading and dictionary software.

I raised the question of an e-ink tablet because there is a chance that they will begin appearing and might be pretty suitable for reading because of e-ink.
So I would not install anything else beyond what is needed for reading.
But that would be a solution if Sony T3 is not rooted and Nook is no longer made.
Or if an e-ink tablet has a clearly better screen, etc.

On the other hand, what is the difference between a rooted T2 and an e-ink android tablet?
In the sense, that I would install Cool Reader and GoldenDict onto both and I don't care about anything else.

I did not suggest that Sony should support self-made tablets.
I did suggest that one of differences (maybe a very important one for some) between rooted T2 and a tablet is absence of support for rooted T2 and presence of support for an official tablet.

You know, I have no intention of buying T3 if it is not rooted (although perhaps better to wait for its specs).
And if it is not, then e-ink android tablets may fill that gap for me.
If only they have buttons. That is my main concern. Because tablets, as general purpose devices, may not have any buttons.

As to bragging about rooting - the bragging rights belong to the people who implemented it: to porkupan and rupor, and others.
I myself rooted 4 T2s, the first one in the early development stages, so there were some horror stories but they still ended well. The other three - without any glitch.
But still, there is some irrational excitement, apprehension or fear present when rooting.
And relief afterwards.
So in that sense, an e-ink tablet which requires no rooting is perhaps an advantage just because of that.
